Expectations:
– The khutba should be 7 to 10 minutes long.
– Can be done in either English or Arabic.
– Candidates will not be allowed to read from a script, so be sure to come prepared.
Minimum requirements of a khutbah:
1) Praising Allah (using Arabic derivation of Alhamd)
2) Shahada
3) Sending salah on the Prophet peace be upon him
4) Recommending taqua
5) An aya of the Qur’an with a direct or indirect reference to taqua
6) Starting the second khutbah with also praise, shahada and salah on the prophet peace be upon him.
Candidates are going to be assessed for meeting these requirements and for how well they deliver the khutba in an engaging manner as well as for the choice of topic.
